Moving into a residential care home is a big step, and it might bring up a lot of different feelings,
like relief, anxiety, and maybe even some doubt. We’ve been helping people move into their new homes at Avon Park for more than 35 years, and we’ve learnt that the key to a smooth transfer is one word: home.
like relief, anxiety, and maybe even some doubt. We’ve been helping people move into their new homes at Avon Park for more than 35 years, and we’ve learnt that the key to a smooth transfer is one word: home.
1. Make Your Space Your Own
When a room looks like the person who lives there, it becomes a “home.” We ask all new residents to bring things they love from their old home. These familiar things, like a favourite chair, family photos, or a well-loved bedspread, can make you feel better right away.
2. The First Day
We understand that the first day can be too much. When you get here, our pleasant care team will be waiting for you. They will already know what you like because of your Personalised Care Plan. We don’t hurry things along. We’ll show you where everything is, introduce you to your neighbours, and make sure you know how to get help anytime you need it.
3. Getting into the groove
One of the best things about living at Avon Park is that there are always fun things to do. But we also value your privacy. We might invite you to an afternoon painting lesson or a session on our famous Drinks Trolley if you like to socialise. Our tranquil residential area in Park Gate has wonderful quiet spots for reading if you like to have some time to yourself.
There is no “right” way to spend your day here; just do what makes you feel best.
4. Rely on Our Knowledge
Our personnel is educated to be more than just carers; they are also friends. We know that the “settling-in blues” can happen a week or two following the transfer. We are here to listen, provide a cup of tea, and make sure the move goes as smoothly as possible.
This is where your new chapter begins.
If you’re thinking about moving to a care home in the Southampton or Portsmouth region, why not come and experience what it’s like for yourself? A quick visit can frequently help with fears about the “unknown.”
